The honor was officially presented at the AYC Meeting on November 24, 2025, where Karla received an enthusiastic standing ovation from delegates, bridge officers, and fellow boaters from across the region.
This prestigious award recognizes individuals whose character, dedication, and contributions exemplify the true spirit of sportsmanship within the AYC community. Karla’s decades of service and her unwavering commitment to the boating world make her an extraordinary and deeply deserving recipient.
A Legacy of Service at Harbor View Yacht Club
Since joining Harbor View Yacht Club (HVYC) in 2005, Karla has become one of its most reliable, creative, and hardworking members. Her service record is long and meaningful, including:
Past President and active member of the Ladies Auxiliary, District 9
Key contributor to The Lights Before Christmas fundraiser for the Ronald McDonald House
Passionate supporter of Blue Gavel District 9—cooking, volunteering, and organizing events
A dependable volunteer for HVYC’s Annual Regatta, Feather Party, and charitable raffles
Frequent donor of raffle baskets for fundraising events club-wide
A regular in the HVYC kitchen—especially as the monthly fry cook for Blue Gavel Burger Night
Committee member for Commodore’s Balls and Cocktail Receptions, proudly representing HVYC at AYC Balls and Poker Runs
Her work is often quiet and behind the scenes, but always impactful.
Leadership That Elevated the AYC Golf Fundraiser
One of Karla’s most visible contributions to AYC has been her leadership of the AYC Golf Fundraiser, which she took over in 2021. Under her guidance, the event has become one of AYC’s premier annual gatherings.
Her efforts include:
Coordinating logistics with the course and the AYC committee
Organizing signage, raffles, food service, and volunteer support
Securing sponsorships and donated items from area businesses
Hosting players at her home for post-event hospitality
Ensuring meaningful recognition and awards for participants
The outing has flourished under her stewardship, strengthening fellowship across the AYC community.
A Champion for I-LYA and the Broader Boating Community
Karla’s dedication extends well beyond her home club. Together with her husband, Dean Reamsnyder, the 2026 I-LYA Commodore, she is a visible and energetic ambassador for boating throughout the Great Lakes.
Her contributions include:
Serving on multiple I-LYA Ball Committees
Supporting Spring and Fall I-LYA weekends at Put-in-Bay
Assisting with Ladies’ Tea, hospitality décor, and Commodore’s receptions
Representing both I-LYA and GCBA at the Cleveland Boat Show for the past several years
Her enthusiasm strengthens connections across yacht clubs and boating associations in the region.
The Heart of a True Sportsman
While Karla’s list of accomplishments is extensive, it is her grace, humility, and genuine kindness that make her stand out. She never seeks recognition—she simply wants to help others enjoy the boating community she loves so much.
Her quiet leadership, generosity, and steady presence embody the finest qualities celebrated by the AYC Outstanding Sportsman of the Year Award.
A Well-Deserved Honor
The AYC was proud to formally present the award to Karla on November 24, 2025, surrounded by peers who know firsthand the depth of her contributions. Her nomination—submitted by Sandy Ball, Joe Petersberger, and Teri Upholzer—reflected the tremendous admiration held for her throughout HVYC, AYC, and I-LYA. AYC Sportsman Award - K Reamsny…
