Barb Petersen Named 2026 AYC Fleet Captain of the Year

The Associated Yacht Clubs has selected Barb Petersen of Bay View Yacht Club as its 2026 Fleet Captain of the Year. Petersen was elected during a meeting held September 27th at Toledo Sailing Club.

Fleet Captain of the Year is one of AYC’s most prestigious peer-selected honors. The recipient is chosen by fellow fleet captains representing the AYC clubs in attendance, making the award a meaningful expression of respect and admiration from those who served in the same role throughout the boating season.

Selection is based largely on participation, attitude, leadership and the promotion of boating throughout the western end of Lake Erie. It also recognizes a fleet captain’s success in encouraging members to travel by boat to AYC events, as well as supporting club cruises, activities and other functions during the year.

Fleet captains play an important part in strengthening the relationships among AYC’s member clubs. Their enthusiasm and organization help get boats away from the dock, introduce members to new destinations and keep the spirit of fellowship thriving across the region.

As Bay View Yacht Club’s Fleet Captain, Petersen demonstrated the commitment and positive leadership that the award represents. Her selection by her peers is a fitting acknowledgment of her efforts on behalf of Bay View Yacht Club, AYC and the western Lake Erie boating community.
